Hip-hop star Akon is in Liberia to endorse the country’s plan to outsource the oversight of its primary education system to an American company.
Some Liberian educators are however against the plan. They say the country should focus on improving salaries and not cede control of its schools to outsiders. Akon’s visit comes six months after Liberia unveiled plans to allow Bridge International Academies to write curriculum and train teachers.
