Kenya’s nominee for the position of Chief Justice, David Maraga, will be sworn into office on Wenesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Tuesday.

Today was the second last day for the approval or rejection of Justice Maraga’s nomination by the National Assembly.

President Uhuru made the announcement at a meeting in the country’s State House.

Members of Parliament are scheduled to hold a special sitting from 6.45pm to adopt the report on his vetting.

Justice Maraga was vetted by a parliamentary house committee following three petitions against his appointment.

Maraga, who was nominated by the Judicial Service Commission on September 22, made headlines in the East African nation when he revealed that he would not hear any election petition on Saturday, his day of worship.

He will replace 69-year-old Willy Mutunga who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice since 2011.
