Uganda registers farmers for government incentives

The government of Uganda has started registering farmers from across the country to ensure that they benefit from government incentives reports the Daily Monitor.

Uganda has set up 34 centres to register the farmers so that they can be recognized as legal entities that can benefit from the government perks. The 34 regional centres will be an all rounded centre for farmers allowing them to access services from the Ministry of Agriculture, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Uganda Registration Services Bureau. In addition get advice farmers on how to improve crop production and food and nutrition security, employment and widened export base.

At least over 2,000 farmers have been registered mostly so far are the large scale producers also involved in value addition because they are among those who fall in the taxable income bracket.

“The benefit of registering the businesses is that we help you to track the progress your businesses so that you can tell whether you are growing or making losses and you can identify why you are making losses. We tax only the profits you make,” said Mr Patrick Opolot, the supervisor tax education Uganda Revenue Authority
