South Africa seems to be lagging behind the rest of the continent when it comes to non-traditional mobile financial platforms.
Banking institutions, which offer similar services, are seeing a growth boom. But cellphone operator MTN recently pulled the plug on its Mobile Money Services. Rival Vodacom also canned its M-Pesa platform.
