Crystal Palace’s Senegalese defender Pape Souare was airlifted to hospital after a car in London, though the injuries he sustained are said not to be life threatening.

Souare, 26, injured his thigh and jaw bone in the Sunday crash, and will stay  in hospital while he receives treatment.

The Senegalese was not involved in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

“The club are liaising closely with the hospital on his progress,” Palace said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Pape and his family at this time.”

Souare’s Palace team-mate Yohan Cabaye tweeted: “Be strong! I wish you a very good recovery.”
