Adopting Swahili could result in extra work for EAC

Swahili could become an official language of the East African Community, alongside English.

Legislators say it would make the regional bloc more accessible to ordinary citizens. But the proposal could face resistance from countries where Swahili isn’t widely spoken. The East African Community is a regional bloc comprised of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan Burundi and Tanzania.
