United Nations Security Council (UNSC) representatives are expected to visit conflict riddled South Sudan, Mawien Makol, a spokesman for the country’s foreign affairs ministry is reported by Reuters to say.
Earlier this month, the Security Council approved the deployment of a 4,000-strong protection force to Juba as part of the UNIMISS peacekeeping mission.
“There is no definite day that I will tell you but they are coming at the end of this week. We will confirm it by Friday,” Makol is quoted as saying.
Heavy gun-battles erupted in Juba last month, killing close to 300 people and forcing thousands of others to flee to neighbouring countries.
South Sudan’s government had initially said it would not cooperate with the UN’s newly enlarged protection force, but since then it has said it was still considering its position.
