Rwandan President Paul Kagame received the President if Benin, Patrice Talon yesterday on his first visit to the East African country. President Talon is on a three day state visit to Rwanda.
Benin’s President made a stop at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre were at least 250,000 people are laid to rest and was given a guided tour in the memorial to learn more about the 1994 genocide against Tutsi which claimed a million lives in a hundred days.
President Kagame hosted Talon at the Radisson Blue Hotel and Convention Centre in Kigali for dinner.
“Rwanda and Benin enjoy excellent relationship and open collaboration on African and international issues,” the statement released by the Presidency said, according to a report by New Times.
The two countries signed a bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) in March and RwandAir is due to start flights to Cotonou on September 2.
Talon is scheduled to visit Kigali Special Economic Zone in Masoro, tour Rwanda Development Board and hold a joint news conference with Kagame.
President Talon announced that Benin will no longer request for Visas from other African countries to promote African tourism and South to South according to Rwanda Presidency Twitter feed.
