A fresh wave of fighting rocked South Sudan late on Saturday as forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and those loyal to the opposition engaged in gun-battles in the southwest of the capital Juba.
This latest incident follows last month’s five-day heavy fighting that hit Juba, killing close to 300 people and displacing hundreds of thousands.
Reuters reports that the heavy fighting erupted along a road linking Juba with neighbouring Uganda.
The UN Security Council on Friday authorized the deployment of a 4,000-strong protection force in the country, though the South Sudanese government remains adamant that it won’t allow any more troops.
The UN threatened to impose an arms embargo if South Sudan refuses to cooperate.
