Nigeria’s national men team won the Olympic game opener against Japan after arriving late in Rio. The Nigerian team beat Japan 5 – 4.showing no signs of fatigue after going through a mix up at the airport in Atlanta to Brazil that led to their landing in Brazil’s jungle city of Manaus six hours before their game costing them their rest and practice time.

Nigeria had spells of strong possession and attractive attacking movements. The 2015 U-23 African Cup of Nations champions are now in first place in Group B, with Colombia and Sweden tied for second, and Japan in last place.

Nigeria’s next game is against Sweden on Sunday at 6pm in Manaus while Japan duels with Colombia at 9pm at the same venue.

The team’s spokesman posted updates on Twitter about the team’s travel to Brazil, clearly stating that the players were still motivated and looking forward to going to Brazil for the world games.
