A former member of Somalia’s parliament was one of the attackers who detonated their suicide bombs at the African Union’s main peacekeeping base in the country, al-Shabaab has revealed.
Reuters report the militants to say through a radio broadcast that Salah Nur Ismail, who joined their ranks in 2010, was one of the attackers in the twin blasts that killed 13 people, mainly guards from a security firm.
Reuters reports that the militants broadcast a recording of Ismail, done before the attack, saying that he would be one of the bombers.
Somalia is scheduled to hold a presidential election next month and security analyst say al Shabaab could take advantage of the distraction caused by campaigning to launch more attacks.
