Kenya has started evacuating nationals from South Sudan due to insecurity in the world’s newest nation caused by violence that rocked its capital Juba this week.
Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has warned Kenyans against travelling to South Sudan.
Sudan and Uganda have been evacuating their nationals since Wednesday when it became apparent that forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and his Vice President Riek Machar may resort to more fighting
The evacuations begun on Friday with one 1 plane and at least 100 people making it home and two flights are expected to head to Kenya with more people.
CCTV Africa’s reporter Robert Nagila is in Juba, South Sudan and he says that there is a growing anger towards the Kenyan government for taking too long to act with shortage of food and water biting the young nation’s capital. At least 2 Kenyans have been killed in the violence.
The security deterioration in South Sudan was a result of sudden conflict between troops loyal to President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar last week July 8. At least 300 people, mainly soldiers were killed.
