England handed ice cold #Brexit2 from Euro 2016, Twitter explodes with ridicule
England suffered their second European exit in a week, this time going down 2-1 to underdog Iceland in their Euro 2016 last 16 tie.
The Three Lions went ahead early in the match through a Wayne Rooney penalty that was awarded after Raheem Sterling was brought down in the 18-yard box.
The less fancied Icelanders were however quick to respond, with Ragnar Sigurdsson slotting home from close range in the sixth minute, just two minutes after Rooney had put England ahead.
The minnows surprisingly snatched the lead in the 19th minute after England keeper Joe Hart spilled Kolbeinn Sigthorsson shot into the back of his net, a lead the Icelanders comfortably protected to the end.
The Three Lions manager has reigned from his position following his country’s elimination from the tournament.
The joy that filled the Iceland fans after the game was overwhelming. The players themselves were immersed in sheer excitement, and even had time to lead their fans in a heart-warming chant after the game. One commentator couldn’t hide his joy, going wild with celebrations after Iceland’s second goal that gave them the lead. Watch….
Following this loss, Twitter has been awash with ridicule for the English side, linking their exit from the Euro2016 to Britain’s exit from the European Union.
