President Kenyatta signs amended anti-doping bill into law
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has signed an anti-doping amendment bill into law.
It comes two days after the World Anti-Doping Agency said Kenyan legislation needed further changes if the country was to be declared compliant.
Earlier this week, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said Russian and Kenyan athletes would have to be screened individually before they could take part in the Rio Games. Kenya has been under global scrutiny over doping, with up to 42 athletes failing tests in the past four years alone — and 18 serving bans totaling 55 years.
The new legislation criminalizes doping and prescribes harsh penalties for offenders.
