Zuma hit by yet another blow as he loses appeal against reinstatement of graft cases
South African President Jacob Zuma’s has failed in his court appeal against the reinstatement of the more than 700 corruption charges, another setback for the leader who has been facing numerous calls for his resignation from the presidency.
The ruling comes just six weeks before the local elections in which the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party faces a strong challenge from opponents seeking to capitalize on Zuma’s missteps.
The court in its ruling said that Zuma and National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams, who had appealed the earlier ruling alongside the president, had no grounds to do so.
It was not immediately clear if the president would appeal the new ruling, but legal analysts said both he and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) could still lodge a petition to the Supreme Court.
