IOC is intimidating Kenyans, former gold medalist says
Former 1,500m Olympics gold medallist Noah Nyeny has blasted the International Olympics Committee (IOC) for its decision to have Kenyan and Russian athletes go through extra tests before allowing them to compete in the upcoming Rio Olympics.
Ngeny, speaking to Reuters, said the move was only meant to intimidate his countrymen.
The IOC on Tuesday said every competitor from Kenya and Russia will have to go through extra individual evaluation for doping and be cleared by their sports international body, because the two countries have poor anti-doping records.
“Kenyan athletes undergo various doping tests all over the world – in Diamond League and other international competitions. This special test announced by IOC does not sit well,” Reuters reports the former champion to say.
Kenyan officials have however accepted the IOC’s ruling.
