Tourists heading to Zimbabwe have been advised to carry cash and in small notes to avoid any inconvenience by the ongoing crisis on cash shortages in the South African country.

“With the recent cash shortage in the country and the possible introduction of bond notes, our guests are advised to travel with cash in small denominations so as to avoid disappointment and unnecessary headaches.” Amalinda Collection, Safari Company, said on its website

Cash withdrawals have been limited in Banks across Zimbabwe with a maximum withdrawal of 500 dollars per week allowed. However, some banks are giving a withdrawal of 100 dollars to 300 dollars per day but customers have to queue for hours for the cash according to News24.

Tourists should be advised that plastic money is of little used in Zimbabwe.

According to Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) the importation of currency into Zimbabwe by travellers is not restricted, meaning any person can bring in any amount of currency into Zimbabwe. Visitors should declare the money in their possession on Baggage Declaration Forms when they enter the country.

Declaration of cash carried will help avoid problems and possible forfeiture of cash when they leave Zimbabwe since Zimbabwe allows travellers to take only a maximum of 1 000 dollars when leaving the country reports News24
