Ethiopia introduces hundreds of buses to ease public transport
The Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, has introduced new Express buses to provide public transport services within the city. The buses are locally manufactured with a capacity of close to a hundred passengers.
Up to 300 buses are expected on the road before the end of the year.
Dubbed Sheger Express city buses, they are more technologically advanced and expected to provide customer friendly service.
From air conditioning to security cameras, they promise a totally new experience for commuters in Ethiopia’s capital.
It has almost been nine months since the Addis Ababa city light rail was commissioned. The trains are now providing transport services to 15,000 passengers per hour per direction and 60,000 in all four directions. However with the growing number of city residents that could not be enough. Addis Ababa residents now say the coming of the express buses is a relief.
