Prayer service held in Kenya following the dropping of charges by ICC

Read < 1 minute

Thousands of Kenyans attended a thanksgiving prayer service and rally on Saturday to celebrate the dropping of charges against Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto by the ICC.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta also attended the rally following last week’s ICC verdict.

The ICC terminated the case, declaring a mistrial against Ruto and former radio journalist Joshua arap Sang.

Ruto and Sang had been charged with murder, deportation and persecution for their alleged leading roles in the violence that left more than 1,000 people dead and forced 600,000 from their homes.

At the event both President Kenyatta and his deputy spoke against divisive politics which played a major role in the 2007/8 post-election violence.
