Public Prosecutor shot outside his home in Mozambique

A public prosecutor in Mozambique was gunned down outside his house by unknown gunmen on Tuesday according to the Police
Marceliono Vilankulo was known for working on the wave of kidnappings across Mozambican cities since 2011. The gangs targeted scores of businessmen of mainly Asian descent and their families living in Maputo or Beira.
“Marcelino Vilankulo was killed by gunfire on Tuesday evening as he was in his car and was about to enter his house in Matola (a suburb of Maputo),” police spokesman Emidio Mabunda told AFP
The police do not have information on the number of attackers or type of weapon used so far
The prosecutor was working on a case of Danish Satar, a Mozambican of Pakistani Origin suspected of being involved in the kidnappings. The police suspect Satar of being the mastermind behind the kidnappings, in which several millions have been demanded. Satar was extradited to Maputo from Italy after his arrest by Interpol. Satar’s family is alleged to be at the core of Mozambique’s criminal underworld.
A judge heading the criminal investigation section of Maputo’s court, Dinis Silica, was riddled in bullets in down town Maputo in May 2014. Silica had just authorised the detention of a businessman suspected to be involved in the kidnapping reports the AFP.
