Nigeria Police take over country’s football association office
Nigerian security forces have sealed off the headquarters of the crisis-hit Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) in the capital Abuja.
The entrance to the building housing offices is being manned by soldiers and riot police.
This follows last week’s court ruling that NFF president Amaju Pinnick lost his post to Chris Giwa in the federation’s elections held in September 2014.
Giwa and his team have since occupied the NFF offices and have said they would start working on Monday.
The NFF hass appealed against the court ruling, insisting that Pinnick is still the head of the federation.
It is however not clear why the security forces have taken control of the building.
Nigeria now faces the prospect of a FIFA ban, which would jeorpardize their World Cup qualification hopes.
The nation will not take part in next year’s AFCON tournament in Gabon after being held to a draw at home by Egypt in the first leg of their qualifier clash, before losing in the return leg played in Cairo.
