The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has allegedly recruited children and relatives of serving and former senior government officials into its work force, reports the Premium Times.

The bank is said to have used a highly secretive process to hire dozens of employees allegedly related to government officials. According to an inquiry by the Federal Character Commission (FCC) that monitors and ensures that government offices follow the law.

CBN told Premium Times that it conducted ‘targeted recruitment’ for ‘specialists’ after obtaining a waiver from FCC. The FCC has said that it is unware of such a waiver, adding that it requested the CBN to provide its staff nominal rolls for 2013, 2014 and 2015 within two weeks but the institution did not meet the Wednesday deadline.

FCC Regulations of 2008 states that government offices are to duly advertise recruitment in at least two national newspapers with a period of six weeks for qualified Nigerians to apply.
