Egyptian and Arsenal Midfielder Mohamed Elneny was delighted with his individual performance in Champions League match against Barcelona at the Camp Nou but expressed his disappointment at the 3-1 defeat.

Elneny scored his first goal for Arsenal on Wednesday night against the Catalans but it was not enough for the Gunners to proceed further as they fell 5-1 in aggregate.

His goal made him the third Egypt international to score in the Champions League and the fifth African player in history to score against the Spanish giants in the competition.

Speaking to beIN Sports after the match, Elneny said: “We did what we could today. Sure, we lost, but we tried our best. We were playing against a big team.”

“We’re still up for the league. We need to focus. We still have nine games to go and God willing we can do it.

“We know it’s a big stadium and a great stadium too but I’m happy with my performance today, but not that happy about the result. I knew it’d be hard, but there is no ‘hard’ in football.”
