South Sudan hopes admission into EAC will turn its fortunes

Read < 1 minute

Africa’s youngest state hopes its admission into the East African Community will ease its current economic difficulties.

South Sudan was formally admitted to the trade bloc on Wednesday, expanding the population within the bloc to over 160 million.

Joining the regional bloc is a major breakthrough for a country that depends entirely on imports from the East African member states.

EAC admission has received mixed reaction in the capital Juba.

Many residents see the move as an opportunity for the country’s growth.
