Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has been remanded in jail by the Federal High Court judge over allegations of being involved in a 2.5 million dollars job scam.
The court has set his bail hearing on the 2nd of March.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has put up 11 charges against the Minister which he has pleaded not guilty to. The charges border on false by pretence, procurement fraud and money laundering.
A deputy director in the Ministry has also been remanded in prison. A third party involved, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior was granted administrative leave because she is currently nursing a baby.
The defendants are accused of defrauding at least 676, 675 Nigerian applicants, receiving 1,000 Naira (5 dollars) for participating in a futile immigration recruitment exercise on March 15, 2014.
The anti-graft agency is also accusing the defendants of flouting the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 in the award of the contract for the organisation of the recruitment test to Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd
