Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the director general of the government’s budget office, Yahaya Gusau, following the widespread irregularities detected in the 2016 budget presently under consideration by the National Assembly.

Gusau has been in the job for just six months.

His dismissal comes after several questions arose following the 2016 budget which the president announced at the end of last year.

There have been accusations that some ministries inflated their budget allocations.

Buhari has approved the appointment of Tijjani Abdullahi as the new Director-General in charge of the Budget Office of the Federation.

Abdullahi is a fellow of the Certified National Accountants of Nigeria, and a banker of repute with experience in managing public finance.
