C.A.R. presidential run-off set for Sunday Feb. 14th
On Sunday 14 February, voters of the Central African Republic will decide, who their new president will be, in a presidential run-off between two Christian candidates.
The elections mark a major milestone for the Central African Republic, which has suffered unrest and coups, in recent decades.
The Presidential run-off pits two former prime ministers against each other; Faustin Touadera who refers to himself as “The man of the people” and Anicet Georges Dologuele.
Faustin garnered 19% of the votes in the first round of voting, earning him second place to Anicet Georges Dologuele who garnered 24% of the votes in December’s.
The Central African Republic is recovering from several years of intense communal violence between Muslims and Christians. Incidentally, both candidates are Christians.
After citizens vote on Sunday, results are not expected until a few weeks from then.
