San families evicted from a farm in Namibia refuse temporary land

12 families of the San people evicted from a farm belonging to Namibia’s High Commissioner Peingondjabi Shipoh to Nigeria have refused an offer of resettlement offered by the municipality Grootfontein according to local newspapers in Namibia

The families were resettled temporarily following the eviction have demanded a more permanent residence so as to remain undisturbed and in peace. They complained that the area that they have been resettled at the moment is far from their children’s school.

The families have been rendered homeless and their livestock risk being confiscated after the eviction. Approximately 500 animals belonging to the families are set to be auctioned on 19th February to compensate the High Commissioner.

According to the families spokesperson, Julietha Shimbojo, the land that they were relocated to belongs to the municipality thus will limit their use and power over it.
