Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki says he will appear in court to prove his innocence after the Supreme Court ruled that his alleged corruption case should go ahead, the BBC reports.
Saraki had requested the court to quash the 13-count criminal charge against him by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, an agency regulating the conduct of public officials.
In a statement, the Senate president who has always denied the charges, says “at the end of the day truth will prevail and justice will be served.”
Should he be found guilty, Saraki risks losing his position as president of the Senate, and could be banned from holding any political position for 10 years.
