AU member states urged to equip youth with skills for employment
African heads of state met on Friday at special session of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development. NEPAD is the planning and implementation arm of the African Union and aims to eradicate poverty and transform the continent.
NEPAD was formed back in 2001, and although there have been numerous success stories for the organisation, a call came Friday for a more concerted effort.
The organization will have to play a key role in implementing Agenda 2063 – an ambitious plan to transform the lives of Africans.
In the years since its founding, NEPAD has grown in importance across Africa, with several international organisations like the United Nations acknowledging that.
Africa however has huge challenges like youth employment, several crises on the continent and worrying developments on the climate change front. All these contribute to what’s sure to be a busy year for the organisation.
