Hotels in Senegal to be guarded by armed officers
Senegal will deploy armed officers to guard major hotels in the country as part of its anti-terrorism measures, the interior minister has announced.
Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo has been outlining the measures that the Senegalese government is undertaking to prevent terrorist attacks in the capital, Dakar.
The minister was answering questions from Senegalese MP’s concerned by recent assaults on hotels in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou and Mali’s Bamako.
Diallo said smaller hotels were also being visited by police to check their safety.
He revealed that he had written to all hotel owners warning them to enforce their security or face closure.
Tourism in Senegal has been hit hard by the instability in the region and the recent Ebola outbreak.
