Chinese president begins Middle East trip

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh to begin his first state visit of 2016.

He was received at a welcoming ceremony by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

President Xi offered his best wishes to the people in Saudi Arabia and said that diplomatic relations between the countries had come a long way since they were first established in 1990.

He said they had a political understanding and both had made significant achievements in many sectors, which benefitted people on both sides.
