For local experience in Cairo, visit Han El Halili Market
It’s midday, prayers in song filter through the street from a nearby mosque providing a soundtrack to the scenes of the Han el Halili Street where hundreds of traders selling a variety of wares dot its sides.
It’s a Sunday morning, the first day of the work week, and business is slow. One trader tells us that things have changed, there are not many buyers and customers these days. Times are tough due to the weakening currency.
The colourful display of materials, bags, dresses and ancient Egypt themed trinkets seem to have not attracted any tourists today. However, the traders hope that good days are still to come.
