Javelin thrower Julius Yego was crowned 2015 Kenya Sportsman of the Year at the country’s annual Sportsman of the Year ceremony in Nairobi on Friday.

Yego, who broke the African javelin record twice and the national record on four occasions, beat out runner-up Asbel Kiprop and Geoffrey Kamworor, who was second runner-up.

World 3,000m steeplechase champion Hyvin Kiyeng took the Sportswoman of the Year award as Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia were named Team of the Year.

Women’s volleyball enjoyed a double win, taking Women’s Team of the Year while national team coach David Lungaho won Coach of the Year.

Doping took center stage as Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario said that the Kenya government had pledged 5 million US dollars to the country’s proposed anti-doping agency.
