Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto is expected to appear at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, Netherlands today to try to get the court to drop the case against him.

Ruto is accused of crimes against humanity charges relating to the violence which followed Kenya’s 2007 general elections.

The ICC dropped similar charges against President Uhuru Kenyatta for lack of evidence, but the prosecution argues that Ruto and journalist Joshua arap Sang do have a case to answer.

The defendants argue that the prosecution has failed to produce sufficient evidence for the case to go ahead, denying the charges.

Already, the deputy president has filed a 95-page “request for judgment of acquittal” which offers a glimpse of the line of arguments he will be deploying next week.

The ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on the other hand has responded with a 140-page rebuttal which also answers Sang.
