Mogae: Creation of 28 new regional states could threaten South Sudan peace deal
The chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, of the South Sudan peace deal, is raising concerns that a row over the creation of 28 new states in the country could undermine recent gains in the implementation process.
During an interview in Juba, Festus Mogae, the former President of Botswana now heading the commission, noted President Salva Kiir’s unilateral move creating the new states had complicated matters and could lead to protracted negotiations.
