Officials of the African Union Mission in Somalia have urged local communities to help in the war against Alshabaab. AMISOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Jonathan Rono said the militants can only be eradicated, if communities work hand in hand with the deployed troops.

AMISOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Jonathan Rono extended his regional tour to Baidoa, where he met with AMISOM Ethiopian National Defence Forces troops, serving in Sector 3. The Sector covers the Bay, Bakool and Gedo regions.

“This days to be honest with you, AMISOM is not Just providing security to the city of Baidoa, it has handed over to the local forces. We have local police, military forces and using the available forces it became possible to bring peace there.”  Yemane Gabre, Amisom Sector 3 Commander Col.

The troops from sector 3 were successful in liberating Baadheere and Diinsoor, which were key towns for AlShabaab. The troops attribute this success to support of the local community. Sector 3 military successes could also not have been achieved without partnership with the Regional Administration and Federal Security Bodies  according to the Commander .

The AMISOM Ethiopian National Defence Forces troops have liberated many towns and villages over seven hundred terrorists have been killed. Weapons, ammunition, equipment and cars have also been captured
