Gunmen Attack Burundi General’s Convoy
Gunmen reportedly raided an a convoy belonging to a senior police officer in charge of special units set up to protect national institutions in Burundi.
Police say uniformed men opened fire on Genera Christophe Manirambona convoy in the capital, Bujumbura, thinking he was in one of the vehicles.
The general was however not travelling in the convoy at the time.
Three of the attackers were killed and a number of weapons recovered.
Burundi descended into violence in April when President Pierre Nkurunziza announced that he was running for a third term.
