South Sudan begin transition to a unity government

The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, the body stipulated by the regional bloc IGAD to oversee the implementation of South Sudan peace agreement, has began operations .

The commission lead by former Botswana president Festus Mogae is mandated to oversee the South Sudan government of National unity which is yet to be formed.

Speaking at a launch ceremony, Mogae called for cooperation from the parties to the agreement, so as to expedite the implementation process.
