Troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia – or AMISOM – have been returning home. A contingent of Burundian soldiers is the latest to finish their one year tour of duty. And they’ve gone on parade for one last time in Mogadishu.

Outgoing Burundian troops gave their final march in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. They have been among troops deployed under Amisom to help bring stability in the country.

“The success with which you performed your operational tasks during your tour of duty including protection of human rights, confirms how well trained and prepared you were for the tasks. I commend you for the professionalism you displayed.” Major General, Mohammedesha Zeyinu, AMISOM Deputy force commander

The Burundian troops were also awarded certificates to mark their completion of service. East African countries deployed troops under AMISOM into Somalia starting March 2007, following decades of civil war.
