Chinese mothers donate necessities to orphanages in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe’s 1.8 million orphans are proving to be a challenge to cater for. This especially as the number keeps rising due to poverty and deaths related to HIV and AIDS. But this past weekend a group of Chinese mothers visited orphanages there and donated necessities in a bid to alleviate the situation.
The plight of Orphans in Zimbabwe is one that is worrying many, the numbers of orphans which have kept growing now stand at about 1.8 million, which proves to be quite hard to provide for their food shelter and other basic necessities. That’s why a new initiative dubbed the Orphan Sunday saw many Chinese mothers come to the aid of Orphanages in Zimbabwe.
“We found that the conditions of the orphanage there were very tough. The kids cannot get money for studying as a result teachers cannot get salaries. After that the loving mothers got together and discussed how we can help them. Especially on how we can help the kids get education. I think this is very important because these kids are the future of the nation.” said Peng Yan, organizer of Loving Mothers
Poverty and a rise in deaths related to HIV and AIDS have been blamed for the increasing number of Orphans in Zimbabwe. And though researchers claim that orphanages may be the worst possible care option for children, concern is whether there are any other viable and sustainable options to alleviate the situation.
