Ugandan students launch cancer detecting mobile app

Healthcare in Africa has been improving, thanks to technology. Now, university students in Uganda have launched the “Her Health BVKit” prototype, a mobile app that allows women to self test for cervical cancer at home.

In Uganda reproductive health issues are often considered shameful and many women will not seek out medical care…leaving them at risk of sexually transmitted diseases.

While only 5 percent of women in Uganda have smartphones, the numbers are growing, and the app’s designers hope to spread it to other parts of Africa like Nigeria and South Africa, where nearly 30 percent have smartphones
