South Africa to reduce greenhouse emissions by 42% by 2025
If South Africa’s Carbon Tax bill is passed it will come into being on 1 January 2017 and the first payments of carbon tax are expected in the national treasury coffers a year later. But is that good or bad for business?
Many companies don’t know what to expect, because they haven’t been talking to national treasury. The engagements have been happening at another level, with business associations.
“So my view is incentive the change, give companies grants, tax incentives and then maybe in ten years time, if they then don’t come to the party, then penalize them with a tax. It’s just too early.” Duane Newman, Director, Cova Advisory & Associates
