MTN group fined $5.2 billion by Nigeria Communication Commission over unregistered SIMs

Read < 1 minute

Nigeria’s Communication Commission has fined the MTN group $ 5.2 B for failing to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards.

That figure takes into account the disconnection of 5.1 million MTN Nigeria subscribers in August and September, and it is based on a fine of about 1,000 dollars for each unregistered subscriber.

MTN says it is in talks with the NCC to resolve the matter, but its shares fell by as much as 12%.

That’s the biggest one-day drop in almost seven years.
