Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Monday held a round of talks with his Algerian counterpart Abdul Aziz Boutaflika, focusing on the outstanding relations between the two countries and means of boosting this even further, with more emphasis on trade and economy.
Al-Bashir is on a three-day official visit to Algeria, where he arrived on Sunday.
He has pointed out in press statements following his meeting with Boutaflika that Sudan appreciates the role played by Algeria in handling the security situation in the region, particularly its contribution in finding a solution to the crisis in Mali. He also praised Algeria’s huge contribution in resolving the problem in Libya while at the same time fighting terrorism and combating human trafficking and organized crime.
He went ahead to point out the role played by Algeria in supporting the African liberation movements.
Al-Bashir also said the discussion touched on the possibility of Algeria playing a role in closing the gap between Egypt and Ethiopia on the issue of renaissance dam, referring to the role played by Sudan in this domain.
The Sudanese president described his meeting with Boutaflika as being successful and fruitful, and that the outcome of the talks would reflect on the bilateral relations between the two countries, adding that the view of the two countries have been identical on all issues reviewed.
