Muhammadu Buhari promises to rescue Chibok girls
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to rescue the schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamist extremist group Boko Haram in 2014.
Muhammadu made the pledge during his first address to the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The president also promised to end the Boko Haram threat by defeating the terrorism militia group that has recently increased its terrorism operations in West Africa.
Boko Haram stormed a school in the remote north-eastern Nigerian town of Chibok in April 2014 and seized 276 girls who were preparing for their end-of-year examinations.
Fifty-seven of the girls escaped but nothing has been heard of the other 219 so far.
President Buhari promised the General Assembly that his government had put in place a bold and robust strategy to defeat Boko Haram.
