Tomorrow might turn out to be a case of baptism by fire for the Namibian rugby team as it begins its Rugby World Cup campaign against two time world champions New Zealand.
The African side are considered outright minnows in this game, and would need more than luck to beat the immensely talented All Blacks.
Namibia is the lowest ranked team in the tournament, lying at position 20 and as such don’t have any chance beating the top ranked New Zealand, at least not on paper.
A lot of credit will however go to the Namibian team as it comprises mostly players who play rugby as a part time profession. The team is made up of engineers, farmers, businessmen and even a denstist.
Unlike the All Blacks who take up Rugby as their sole career, the Namibians only depend on spare time to train and get their game going.
After watching Japan take on the mighty South Africa and successfully snatch a victory, the Namibians may obtain some confidence to give the game their best shot and hope that the All Blacks make mistakes that they could capitalise on.
New Zealand has however already stated its intention to lift the trophy for a third time and may not take anything for granted.
