Three weeks after the peace deal in South Sudan, the war-torn areas of South Sudan have witnessed a lot of emigration, with thousands fleeing the ongoing fighting in the area.
The village of Nyal is spilling over with thousands of civilians who have treaded through the swamplands of Sudd running away from the fire in northern sides of Unity state.
According to the United Nations there is a total of 78 000 refugees in Nyal with at least 18 thousand people having arrived in the village in the past two weeks.
The civil war in South Sudan has led to displacement of people with more than 1.64 million people internally displaced, another 628 000 displaced to neighbouring countries. A huge percentage of the population, at least 4.6 million people, are dependent on food aid.
South Sudan’s civil war began in 2013 when President Salva Kiir accused his former deputy Riek Machar of planning a coup. Thousands of people have been reported dead since then.
Even in light of the ongoing fight, the political parties maintain that the deal is still in place.
