Somalia unrest: Al-Shabaab militants take towns

Read < 1 minute

In Somalia, Al Shabaab has reportedly taken control of a third town – apparently after African Union forces withdrew. The militants have been retaking towns in south-western Somalia since Friday. AMISOM forces withdrew from Buqda town late on Saturday – less than a month after taking control of the town. It’s an economic centre of the Hiran region. But even as these towns fell, Somalia’s government insists that Al Shabab is a beaten force.
