Read < 1 minute

”Memories are made of this! ”, a very common cliche you wouldn’t miss out in most conversations.

Well this conversation has finally got its place on social media and has been trending for a while now. But what’s interesting is that Africa has got into the mix with many twitter users shading light on their memories growing up as children of the beautiful continent.

Having been raised in Africa, as an African, several memories while growing up tend to be similar across board, though not limited from around the world.

Twitter timeline for the past few weeks is filled with pictures and memes of the funny struggles African children had growing up, using the hashtag #GrowingUpBlack.

The hashtag started in Johannesburg, South Africa. As of the 16 July, the hashtag has 813, 325 tweets to it.
